My name is Paul and I’m a thirty-something Californian native. Born and raised in Southern California, for the past four years I’ve been living in beautiful Marin County, just a few miles north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Prior to 2012, I would not have predicted starting a blog. Then I heard a piece on NPR’s “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” about “Tuesdays with Dorie”, an internet baking circle that would tackle all of “Baking With Julia”, the companion cookbook to the 1990s PBS series of the same name. Having owned the book for over almost fiftteen years though never cooking more than a dozen of its recipes, I figured joining Tuesdays with Dorie would force me to expand deeper into the cookbook, as well as my baking repertoire.
In order to participate, I needed to start a blog. And for that, I would need a name. As the youngest of three, “the boy” is the most polite of number of nicknames given by not always kind older brothers. Remembering the Dire Straits song “Walk of Life” which includes the line “Oh yeah, the boy can play”, I had my blog name “The Boy Can Bake”
